Deni

One half of the team that produces the popular Mama Taxi strip, Deni is one of the very few women in South African cartooning.

Deni writes the strip, which is drawn by Gavin Thomson. Perhaps there's an element of herself in the lead character that she writes: Mama (Mavis) is also a pioneer of her gender as one of the few female taxi drivers, navigating her way through a male dominated world with her able co-pilot and sister, Zandi.

Mama Taxi has been on the road since 2005 and continues to make inroads into daily newspapers nationwide.

When not dreaming up taxi stories, Deni ghost writes a collection of autobiographies by cats who lead interesting lives. She leads her own interesting life in the beautiful False Bay area of Cape Town, just around the mountain from Gavin.

Deni's work has been published in a collection of Mama Taxi cartoons, and in 'Don't Joke!' The Year in Cartoons.
