In a wonderful acknowledgement of the talents of cartoonist Zapiro (who hasn't always ingratiated himself with conservatives in his Jewish community), the South African Jewish Museum in Cape Town has curated an exhibition of his cartoons entitled 'Jiving with Madiba'.

JOHANNESBURG. The taxi industry has drawn up a code of conduct for future air-drivers and sky-gaatjies on its proposed low-cost airline, prohibiting them from sitting on runways hooting for passengers, pulling out into oncoming traffic at 32,000 feet, and shooting at rival airlines sharing their routes. Asked where the industry plans to launch its airline, a spokesman said, “Ag, just sommer off the end of the runway.”

Africartoons.com reached a milestone this on July 1st with the posting of our 4000th cartoon!
Since the site relaunched some 18 months ago with a handful of cartoons being updated on a weekly basis, the website now uploads some 300 cartoons every month, updated daily, and representing all of South Africa's leading editorial and comic strip cartoonists.

This Year's National Arts Festival in Grahamstown (30 June - 10 July) is filled with events that will be of interest to cartoon and comic art fans.
Amongst those featured are guerilla publisher Moray Rhoda, who will be launching an SA/Australian comic book collaboration, Andy Mason, who will be discussing his epic book "What's So Funny?' and hosting a panel discussion and series of workshops on comic art, and perennial favourite Zapiro, who will deliver a lecture on 'Freedom of Expression'.
