SA COMIC STRIP COMES ALIVE ON TV!

TREKNET's two main protagonists, Boet and John (through their cartoonist alter egos Gavin and Dave), have announced that they will debut in October with their own TV show. Their popular cartoon strip has entertained thousands of daily readers accross South Africa and abroad over the past nine years, and this news comes as an exciting development for them.

"It’s been five years in the making," says Boet of the show which will launch at 8pm on October 7th on Afrikaans station KykNet. Boet and John thanked Penguin Films and producer Roberta Durrant and Di Riddel for bringing their characters to life, and their families, friends and newspapers for their support.

The live action comedy series stars Jodi Abrahams as Boet Pieterse, Leon Kruger as John Smith and Erica Wessels as Sannie. Filmed in Kalk Bay, Simons Town and their surrounds, the Treknet series follows Durrant and Penguin Films' success in bringing Madam & Eve to life.

Asked how he felt about the news, John exclaimed "Lekkerrrrrr!"

A fresh and comical drama set in the world of a small fishing community has recently been produced for KykNET by Penguin Films. The comedy is based on the popular comic strip ‘Treknet’, and will be broadcast under the same name from 7th October 2013, every Monday night at 20:00. Penguin Films has had great success with comic strip sitcoms in the past (Madam & Eve) and hopes that the characters will once again become even more popular with viewers when they are seen alive and kicking on television.
 
The strip was created by Gavin Thomson and Dave Gomersall and has been running for 9 years. It made its first appearance in the People’s Post but since then has been syndicated to various publications both locally and internationally in countries such as Norway and Sweden.  The Treknet comic strip also has its popular Facebook page: THE OFFICIAL TREKNET FAN PAGE.
 
‘Treknet’ is about Boet Pieterse (Jody Abrahams) and John Smith (Leon Kruger) who are friends and fishermen. They live together in Kalk Bay in a little fisherman’s house that belongs to Boet and fish every day to sustain their lazy lifestyle. A collection of zany supporting characters make up this group of residents in the small fishing community.
 
Mr Williams (Ivan Abrahams) and Mrs Williams (June van Merch) are Boet and John’s elderly, nosy neighbours. Mr Williams is conveniently deaf – mostly to block out his wife’s nagging and the only thing spicier than Mrs Williams’ chicken breyani, is Mrs Williams herself!
 
Sannie (Erica Wessels) and Annie (Lee-Ann Van Rooi) own the local fish and chips take-away called BAKSPAT. Sannie is hopelessly in love with John who can never pluck up the courage to commit and Annie continually swats away Boet’s attempts at romancing her.
 
Wiseman Sithole, (Mbulelo Grootman) and Oortjies (Alfredo Joseph) complete the quirky group of characters who will entertain you, reminding you that sometimes the ‘simpler’ life is not so simple after all!
