ZA News comes to TV
THE SATIRICAL life sized puppet show created by cartoonist Zapiro and produced by Thierry Cassuto will finally be flighted on TV after being canned two years ago by the SABC, who had co-funded the show's pilot to the tune of R1 million.
Last year, the show took to the internet, changing its name from Z News to ZA News, and is currently in its second season after a hugely successful first. You can view it by visiting Africartoon's YouTube Africhannel.
ZA News has now concluded a deal with DSTV's Summit (Channel 412) to also appear on TV daily in a 3 minute episode just before the 10pm news, and repeated the following morning at 8am. The business station said that its "sophisticated audience" would have an appetite for the satire and current events that make up the show - a stark contrast to the state broadcaster's assertion in 2008 that the show would offend the sensitivities of its own viewers.
