    Fine artist and satirist Brett Murray, the painter of the controversial portrait of President Zuma titled The Spear, was a special guest of africartoons at the exhibition of Spear Cartoons we curated as part of the co/MIX Day at the Open Book Festival in Cape Town last weekend.

    Also at the event were africartoonists Brandan, Chip, Deni Brown, Gavin Thomson, Stent and Zapiro, whose work was on display at the exhibition and as part of africartoons' slide presentation of Julius Malema cartoons.

  2. Cartoonists stand against media restrictions

    South Africa’s top editorial cartoonists have banded together to protest against the government’s intended press restrictions.

    In rejecting the proposed Protection of Information Bill and Media Tribunal, they have warned that these restrictions will erode the right to freedom of expression achieved by the country’s hard fought struggle for democracy.

  5. CAPE TIMES INTRODUCES NEW SA STRIP

    Africartoons welcomes a new South African comic strip which debuts exclusively in the Cape Times. ’The Richenbaums’ is a collaboration between the Trantaal Brothers Andre and Nathan, and their mother Charmaine, and the strip joins a growing number of indigenous strips which includes 'Madam & Eve’, ‘TJ’, 'Mama Taxi’, 'Trek Net’, 'The Biggish Five’, ‘Outstrips’,  and the offbeat 'Western Nostril'.
