For Pride and Country

RUGBY WORLD CHAMPIONS SOUTH AFRICA were severely tested when they took on the visiting British and Irish Lions in a thrilling 3 match test series in June 2009.

Besieged coach Peter de Villiers' Bok side took the first test (26-21) in a hard fought match, and secured the series by an even tighter margin (28-25) in the second test, celebrated by this cartoon by rugby enthusiast Weyni Deysel. The Lions came back to win the third test 28-9, but the series had been lost. The Springbok victory helped to win public and media favour over for the coach, who had been under severe fire for crazy decisions and statements that he had made.
