Born on 21 April 1978, Daniel MOTHOWAGAE is a senior sports writer at City Press as well as being their editorial cartoonist. This is the realisation of a dream that was formed while growing up in Alexandra township, where he and his cousin would cut out and collect "Zapiro's" from the 'Sowetan' newspaper and copy the drawings.

Today, MOTHOWAGAE is a flourishing new talent under the editorship of Ferial Haffajee (recently arrived from the Mail & Guardian) who he is quick to remind that "there's life after Zapiro!"

MOTHOWAGAE - who also goes by the nickname 'Tromps' - has forged a style of his own, with a keen eye for caricature accentuated by oversized heads. His keen interest in sport is revealed in a bias in that direction in his subject matter.
