Road to Nowhere

THE ROAD TO NOWHERE: Gavin Thomson has a proposal for the riddance of the dreaded official Blue Light Brigades. Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has promised  to do away with them in her province.

The cartoonist features his trademark 'Little Blue Beetle' - after which his studio is named - in a subtle autobiographical reference in this cartoon. This humble beetle makes an appearance in other editorial cartoons of Gavin's, and is a lead character in his TREK NET strip. Residents of Noordhoek in Cape Town are familiar with the real life version, which is to Gavin what red veldskoene and his trademark hat are to South African comic folk musician David Kramer.
