Tayo

TAYO Fatunla, Cartoonist, Designer; Illustrator, Caricaturist, Storyteller, Cartoon Tutor, Visual Communicator and Motivational speaker is a member of the National Cartoonists Society and CartoonArts International/New York Times Syndicate both U.S. based and Professional Cartoonists Organisation (PCO) U.K.

He is a graduate of the prestigious Art school, The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Dover, New Jersey. He has held exhibitions and cartoon workshops in the U.K., Nigeria, Cameroon, Finland, France, Ethiopia, the U.S., Egypt, Belgium, Italy and Ireland and has published his cartoons internationally. And also at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-upon-Avon, England, the birth place of William Shakespeare. TAYO has produced cartoons and illustrations for school books, newspapers, magazines, and web sites. He has also designed numerous magazine covers and posters.

As a visiting speaker and lecturer, TAYO has lectured at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin and the National University of Ireland, Galway, the University of Rouen, France, Instituto Professionale Di Stato per L'industra L'artigianato, Italy and Addis Ababa University - School of Journalism and Communication, Ethiopia. TAYO has produced cartoons for the BBC including the BBC web site in Swahili, BBC Radio 7 and BBC Network Africa and BBC World Service. Also, the British Library, the British Museum, the Horniman museum and the National maritime museum have benefited from his creative workshop sessions. He has also attended the PICHA exhibition in Palma, Mallorca and the International Festival of the Comic (FIBDA) in Algeria.

TAYO's published books include two books on black history, OUR ROOTS and OUR ROOTS - Black History sketchbook a series featured in the New York Amsterdam News. TAYO - THRO' THE YEARS, is a compilation of editorial cartoons published in various newspapers and magazines around the world. Through his OUR ROOTS drawings, TAYO continues to highlight the achievements of Black people in the diaspora. Since the series of Our Roots was first published in a British newspaper, the Voice, the series has also been syndicated as well. The Studio Museum in Harlem in New York, one of the foremost American institutions for African contemporary art selected TAYO’s OUR ROOTS drawings on Black history for display. Among other projects TAYO has participated, include Germany’s Draw Attention International a collaboration with UNICEF and in STERN (Germany’s most widely read news magazine), Project Manifesta! with the Italian based Africa e Mediterraneo and The Elephant project in Newcastle, England. TAYO has also been invited as a participant to the International Comic Artist Conference (BISCOF & ICC) in Bucheon, the Comic city in South Korea. TAYO was awarded Crayon de Porcelaine for his contribution to press cartoons internationally at the Salon International Dessin de Presse & Humour, St- Just-le-Martel, France. He is also a Trophe d’ Honneur recipient awarded to him by 49+ B.D. Francophone in Tourcoing, also in France.
