Based on a small story where the Directorate of Non Profit Organizations, part of the Dept. of Social Development, has deregistered about 50 000 NPO's countrywide, for non-compliance. Included amongst them are the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and even the Jacob Zuma Foundation. This means that organizations that have failed to comply are effectively cut off from funding. This is apparently a massive admin stuff up but despite numerous calla, the Dispatch could get no answers . Nobody answered the phone. According the Shelagh Gastrow, Eecutive Director of NPO Inyathelo, "they haven't answered their phones in 10 years".
