THE ABOVE CARTOON, a collaboration between JERM & CURTIS, was deemed by Jerm's editors at Eye Witness News (EWN) not to have a strong enough connection to yesterday's Valentine's Day tragedy in which Oscar Pistorius is said to have shot and killed his girlfriend.
The original concept of the cartoon was to generalise the scenario to make it a universal commentary on crime, violence, gender abuse and even sexual violence in South Africa; issues which are at last being met with the levels of outrage they deserve. The cartoon signifies the loss of innocence, or the slaughter of hope if you will.
Ultimetely, the editors prefered the following less subtle version which they felt was more pertinent to the Pistorius story...
