Following the ANC’s reaction to the 'Congress of Clowns Cartoon’, many cartoonists around South Africa reported that their editors were being extra cautious regarding their cartoons, and especially weary of referencing clowns. When Dov Fedler originally submitted this cartoon to Cape Times, he used his mascot newspaper salesman to reference the ‘Clown Cartoon’ (see below), but he was requested to remove any mention of clowns.
