Putting a Lid on Qwelane's Hatred
AMBASSADOR OF HATRED: How South Africa - a country which prides itself on human rights matters - could see fit to make an avowed homophobe its ambassador to Uganda (where gay people are persecuted), is beyond all reason. This week, the Equality Court found the ambassador to be guilty of hate speech after the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) laid a complaint for remarks he made in a 2008 article in a national tabloid, and ordered him to pay a R100 000 fine to the SAHRC and issue an apology to gay people.
