Afrikaans Medium Decree Of 1974

LOST IN TRANSLATION: A major complaint amongst the students that protested against the apartheid education system in June 1976 was that education was delivered in Afrikaans; "the language of the oppressor". The government decree to enforce Afrikaans as the language of learning was issued in 1974, but, as JERM demonstrates here, the authorities had no idea as to how large a protest it would fuel just two years later.
