Taxis Take to the Air
SKY TAXI: The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco)'s announcement that it is to enter the low cost airline market comes much to the dismay of road users who feel taxi owners shouldn't even be allowed on the road, let alone take to the skies. But the news is welcomed by cartoonists, talk show hosts, journalists and bloggers, all of whome have responded with humour. One website broadcasted: “Santaco Express Airlines announces the departure of flight 7134 to Cape Town. Could all 234 passengers please board the Cessna 162 immediately!"
Newsline continues: "Even Santaco business development officer Nkululeko Buthelezi could see the funny side of it when he told potential investors and reporters in Johannesburg : "I can see some of you rolling your eyes because of how our taxi drivers drive... I can assure you we won't allow our taxi drivers to drive [the planes]."
