The Emperor's New Clothes...
IN A POSITIVE TWIST to the story of the Emperor's New Clothing (these ones are for real), ZAPIRO lets his readers to dress the President in their favourite national team strip. Since famously donning the number six Springbok jersey at the 1995 Rugby World Cup, Nelson Mandela has sported the outfits of the other national sporting codes too as part of a nation building initiative.
Advance ten years to his birthday in 2006, after the Madiba Magic he had sprinkled had worn off. The national teams (and his beloved ANC) were faring poorly and engulfed in drama. This cartoon by John Curtis shows a different picture.
