BLACK TUESDAY | Cartoon by JERM (The New Age)

A JERM OF AN IDEA: It was JERM's idea to invite cartoonists around the country to each contribute a black cartoon as a united protest against the imposition of the Secrecy Bill. Because many cartoonists had already drawn their cartoons for Black Tuesday, and others don't publish on Tuesdays, they were invited to do the cartoon any time within the week. Commercial cartoonists have joined their editorial fellows in heeding the call and already - at the time of writing this, less than a day of the call for black cartoons - over a half dozen cartoonists have contributed their 'Protest Cartoons'; with at least another half dozen expected.

Some cartoonists have followed the template of a solid black cartoon with their signature and date in white in the bottom right hand corner. Others have employed their artistic licence to interpret the brief in their own way, ensuring that the greater part of the cartoon is coloured black, to mark what will forever be remembered as Black Tuesday. Note the detail in the black of this JERM cartoon (which one might miss if one's computer monitor is at the wrong angle or bathed in sunlight).
