Questions have been raised over the link between social disorder, corruption and crime in South Africa and President Zuma’s apparently soft stance over this behaviour and in particular his reluctance to curb the provocative hate speech of his youth leader Julius Malema. Cuan Miles’ cartoon is particularly pertinent following the gruesome murder of white supremacist Boer leader Eugene Terre’Blanche in the wake of Malema’s (and ANC’s) controversial promotion of the struggle song “Shoot the Boer”.
