"For your own Good"
DOV FEDLER’s cartoon entitled “Its For Your Own Good” is about the Group Areas Act which prohibited people of colour from living where they wanted to under Apartheid in South Africa. Black residents illegally renting flats in Hillbrow (in Joburg’s inner city) lived in constant fear of eviction. This cartoon is part of a collection donated by the cartoonist to Museum Africa. It was first published in 1978 (exact date and publication unknown - probably 'The Star').
