The Honourable Thing

AN AFRICARTOONS EXCLUSIVE

WHEN BRANDAN'S EDITOR declined to publish this cartoon - presumably for fear of offending a small proportion of the paper's readership, and a larger portion of its advertisers - the cartoonist offered it to Africartoons as an exclusive. We agreed it was too good a cartoon to bury, and didn't hesitate to take it on, as our position is to expose all points of view fairly, which we demonstrated in the recent furore concerning Zapiro's cartoon depicting the prophet Muhammad.

We do not necessarily agree with all the cartoons we publish, but in the case of this one we do believe it to be fair comment on the recent Gaza Flotilla tragedy.

We know (and respect) that there will be those who do not subscribe to this belief, and we invite all interested parties to use the comments facility below to put forward their arguments, for or against, in a mature and respectful manner.

While noms de plume and anonymous comments are accepted on this site, those displaying the writer's name always carry more weight.

Brilliant cartoon. Strong and clear.

SJ Marks says:

Brandan's cartoon is as one sided as ever. There's much more to this story than what a cartoon can attempt to explain. Even so, this cartoon falls far short of the truth.

Barbz says:

All violence should be condemned. Each act is as pathetic as the previous one. Why is it that we all feel obliged to take sides? This conflict has waged for decades and has always been fuelled by one act of violence which inspires a retaliation, which in turn inspires another retaliation. It's an ever ending spiral that will only be broken when a true leader, worthy of the prophets these nations say they represent, steps up and says "No more retaliations. Let's talk peace".
