Soobben Marks the Anniversary of Indians coming to SA

NANDA SOOBBEN marks the 150th anniversary (on 16 Nov 2010) of the arrival of Indians in South Africa to work the fields of sugar cane by sending us this cartoon he did 3 years ago.

Bringing an ethic of hard work and commitment, the Indian community integrated itself into the country despite repressive laws which prejudiced them. They brought with them a flavour which has enriched South Africa's heritage and diversity. Their contribution towards our liberation could never be over stated and the example shown by the likes of such leaders as Gandhi served to inspire the generations that followed him. This classic cartoon by SOOBBEN was first published in 2007.
