As I noted last week, identity politics has escalated in recent times. It's very odd. People - usually those who identify as being on the political left - have become increasingly intolerant and totalitarian in their discourse. Even left-leaning publications, such as the New York Times, have cited concerns over this global trend. Ignorant pigeonholing and superficial labels are commonplace.
It appears to be no different in South Africa.
