Dawn of a New Age...

NEWS IN HALF MEASURES? Finally the print edition of The New Age has hit the streets, and JERM celebrates the event with this multi media cartoon which straddles the divide between a blast of full colour and monochrome as well as that between hand rendered artwork and photography. The cartoon refers to the paper's philosophical declaration that it will "see the glass as half full", and the mainstream media's counter (when the fledgling paper was subjected to a staff walkout just prior to its original launch date), that their newsroom was now "half full... or is it half empty?".

Africartoons welcomes the new newspaper to the media landscape and is encouraged by its insistence that while it will be supportive of the government of the day, it will hold the government to its promise of good governance, and will fight corruption and defend its own independence. All news vehicles have their own agenda. That this newcomer's position is clearly declared upfront is a good thing. We hope they will live by it.
