ZAPIRO IN HOT WATER AGAIN
In reaction to the latest political cartoon by Zapiro, ANC spokesperson Brian Sekoto said on Sunday that the ANC is seeking legal advice and are considering laying a claim of defamation against Zapiro and the Mail & Guardian who published the cartoon on Friday.
In Zapiro's latest cartoon Zuma is shown unbuckling his belt, while ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe (holds) a woman (with) the torch of free speech.
Zapiro is seemingly commenting on the ANC's suggested Protection of Information Bill and the state-appointed media tribunal to oversee complaints against journalists.
The latest cartoon is in the same vein as Zapiro's Raping Justice which appeared in the Sunday Times in 2008 for which both Zapiro and the Sunday Times are being sued for altogether R5m in damages.
The ANC has said on Sunday that they are disgusted by Zapiro's abuse of freedom of speech.
"We ask of him to stop drawing these sorts of cartoons that border on libel. He should rather focus on practicing his profession within the limits of ethical journalism," said Sekoto.

The Rape of Free Speech
INDECENT PROPOSAL: The government's insistence on pushing through the 'Secrecy Bill' has prompted Zapiro to add this episode to his Rape of Justice series. The controversial series has depicted President Zuma and his henchmen as serial rapists of our freedoms and liberties, and every addition is certain to solicit a venemous counter attack from the authorities. Perhaps this cartoon will prompt the government to expand the Protection of Information Bill to outlaw all satire deemed to be a threat to any state organ. Especially that presidential organ!
