HAVE COMIC STRIPS REACHED THEIR SELL BY DATE?
The once popular newspaper comic strip has come under threat in South Africa, following similar trends elsewhere in the world. A number of locally drawn strips have been pulled from national newspapers over the past 12 to 18 months, and there is a fear that this is just the beginning of a greater purge. Why is this so?
Cartoonists Andy Mason (ND Mazin), Jeremy Nell (Jerm), and Mama Taxi creatiors Gavin Thomson and Deni Brown will discuss the past, present and future of the once almighty comic strip at the Franschhoek Literary Festival at an event to be chaired by Africartoons' John Curtis. The discussion will be held at Franschhoek's Congregational Church on Friday 16th May, 4 - 5pm. Tickets are R60 (Students R20) from www.webtickets.co.za. Visit Africartoons' facebook page for more details.
