Masterclass on Political Cartooning

SAT 14 - SUN 15 AUGUST: THE ANNEXE: IZIKO

The Centre for Comic, Illustrative and Book Arts (CCIBA) is hosting a hands-on interactive workshop with Cape Town’s top cartoonists at the Izeko Museum in the Company Gardens in Cape Town this weekend.

Offering a unique in-depth look at the world of political cartooning, it is to be facilitated by Andy Mason and Kathy Coates. Featured cartoonists include Zapiro (Sunday Times, The Times, Mail& Guardian), Jeremy Nell (The Times, The Biggish Five), Brandan Reynolds, (Business Day, Weekend Argus, Rapport)), Chip Snaddon (Cape Argus), John Curtis (Africartoons), Stacey Stent (Noseweek), and Gavin Thomson and Dave Gomersall (Trek Net). 11h30: TOONLAB TABLOID introduced by Andy Mason

12h00: Group work on publication concepts

13h00: Lunch

14h00: Facilitated practical work and finalisation of cartoons for publication

16h00: Practical production of special TOONLAB TABLOID publication featuring participants’ work.

17h30: Closure

TOONLAB TABLOID: Participants will have the opportunity to publish their work in Toonlab Tabloid, a publication specially produced for the event, to be distributed by Iziko Museums.
