e.tv Launches News Satire 'LLN'

Encouraged no doubt, by the constant flow of begging subject matter provided by our public figures, e.tv has announced that it is to host a weekly satirical news show on Wednesday nights.

The show is to be hosted by popular comedian Loyiso Gola, whose brainchild the project is, and it will take the format of a CNN styled news bulletin to be called Late Nite News (LNN). South African and international current affairs will be given his humorous treatment. The project has been in the making for two-and-a-half years.LLN's Loyiso Gola

Previously, Gola's one man stage show, “Loyiso Gola for President” enjoyed nation-wide success and he is also known for for his roles on the television comedy talk shows Phat Joe Live, Pure Monate Show and Dinner with the President.

Independent Newspapers quote Gola as saying that "on LNN we look at all the news making headlines, and take the piss out of them."

"Our point is not to direct people's thoughts, but instil a sense of desire to question the news that they see on TV. We are not out to be the opposition or anything of that sort as we believe we are objective," he explained.

Gola is joined on the show by fellow comedian special correspondents Riaad Moosa and Jason Cope who help him with the scripting of each episode. They have independent control over the content, providing a complete package to the station which then vets it for legalities and BCCSA compliance.

Swear words will be beeped, making the show accessible to viewers of all ages. "We hope even teens who might not normally be interested in current affairs will pay attention because of the unique way we present it", says Gola.

LNN airs on e.tv Wednesday nights at 9.30pm, rivalling comedian Trevor Noah's show at the same time. "I had no control on when the show will air, that was all up to e.tv", says Gola.

Africartoons welcomes this newcomer to the thriving community of satire in South Africa, and hopes it will go some way in filling the huge gape left by online satirical website Haibo.com, which recently shut down.
