SWEDISH MUHAMMAD CARTOONIST UNDER ATTACK

WHILE DELIVERING AN ADDRESS ON FREE SPEECH, cartoonist Lars Vilks was subject to an attack by 15 to 20 people on Tuesday at Sweden's Uppsala University according to CNN. The Daily Cartoonist website reports that Vilks was head butted in the attack and shows a video of the incident.

Vilks, whose 2007 cartoon depicting the prophet Muhammad with a dog's body brought him death threats, was not hurt in the attack which was calmed by police using batons and pepper spray. Two people were arrested.

Vilks has been threatened before for his cartoon which has offended Muslims who regard it as highly offensive. An American calling herself Jihad Jane was indicted last March for allegedly plotting to kill Vilks, whose cartoon was published two years after cartoons were published in Denmark provoked outrage and violent responses from Muslims globally.
