Cartoon Events at the Cape Town Book Fair

This year's fifth anniversary of the Cape Town Book Fair has some exciting events on offer for cartoon enthusiasts. The fair will be held once again at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, from Saturday 31st July through to Monday 2nd August. Friday, July 30th has been set aside for the trade. 

Besides the involvement of perennial Book Fair draw card Zapiro - who is involved in three events on the Saturday and Sunday; Madam and Eve creators Stephen Francis and Rico, Andy Mason (Co-editor of 'DON'T JOKE! The Year in Cartoons'), cartoonists from the soccer comic 'Super Strikers', and Qaps Mngadi (editorial cartoonist for the Zulu language paper 'Isolezwe') will all be making an appearance at events over the three public days.The Cape Town Book Fair is also sure to have its usual wide selection of comic and cartoon books for sale and on display, including those from the brilliant comic book culture of the Francophone countries.

Events to look out for are:

ON SATURDAY, 31 JULY:

09:00-18:00 at The Annex at Iziko: Kids Toonlab Cartoon Workshop. An interactive one- day introduction to the world of cartooning, facilitated by Andy Mason and Kathy Coates, with appearances by Zapiro, Stephen Francis and Rico of Madam & Eve and artists from Supa Strikas. Hosted by Jacana Media.

20:00-Late at  Societi Bistro Satire Supper. A selection of South Africa’s sharpest wits will join different tables for each course for some challenging, rigorous and out of the ordinary dinner table conversation. Marianne Thamm hosts Rico Schacherl and Steve Francis (the men behind Madame & Eve), Eric Miyeni, Andy Mason, Zapiro, Ndumiso Ngcobo. Cost: R180.00. Book on www.strictlytickets.co.za. 10:00-11:00    Umsinsi Stand L9 Book Launch. 'Zuma’s Road to Victory', a book of cartoons by Qaps Mngadi. Hosted by Umzinzi.
